Food

There’s probably no greater unifier for Italians than food. The Italian love affair with food doesn’t just revolve around eating – some of the world’s most popular brands and foods are also produced in Italy. On Thursday 30th April, more than 220 people packed into Society Restaurant (23 Bourke St, Melbourne) for a celebration of Italians and Food. The event was proudly sponsored by Bertocchi, Barilla, leading restaurateur Paul Dimattina and Vostro Private Wealth, with wine provided by Vino Bambino. Guests were treated to fresh-cooked paste and risotti from Barilla, and some incredible cured meats by Bertocchi – and there was certainly no shortage on hand!

The networking event was more than just eating though, it was also about learning of the great cultural and entrepreneurial successes Italians have enjoyed in food and hospitality. It was a pleasure to have Tony Rapone (Marketing & Merchandise Manager at Bertocchi) and Peter Napolitano (Barilla’s Victorian General Manager) share their iconic companies’ stories, and for FMCG industry expert Laurie Cavallo to discuss in detail various issues and challenges facing food producers.

Thank you to Hoyts Food for generously donating various hampers for a business card raffle, and to Barilla for providing pasta samples for guests to take home.
